Protein Assimilation

I was in Whole Foods last week stocking up on a few vitamins. A young man with
an Australian accent was telling his friend/colleague that he wasn’t interested in food an
longer. “I’m getting all mynutrition from protein powder and supplements.”

Just a reminder that vitamin, mineral, and protein supplements are called ‘SUPPLEMENTS’
because the supplement a good diet. There is no supplement available that can take the
place of real food and all of it’s known and unknown synergistic nutrients.

Protein powders typically have 27 grams of protein per serving. The protein has a PER /
(protein equivalency ratio) that determines how much of the protein will be assimilated.
Without adequate fat the protein will not be absorbed.

So the little Aussie hasn’t been absorbing all of his supplemental protein.
Absorb your protein supplement. Add a tablespoon of coconut oil to any protein shake
and you will ensure assimilate all the protein grams the supplement has.

And of course eat a balanced diet.
