Fascial fitness is a methodology for improved posture and alignment and it is the foundation of our activity and corrective exercise system. Rather than being a separate entity it is a fundamental belief system for Healthy Habits and it weaves into every single workout and treatment.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is highly innervated gel-like casing that surrounds all muscles, organs and bones that will tighten with overuse, injury and poor nutrition.

In fascial fitness individual muscle movement is less important than the functionally integrated body-wide continuities that follow the lines of fascial webbing. This explains why pain or decreased flexibility in one area can be linked to a totally ‘silent’ area distant from the problem. So when your shoulder hurts we sometimes ask for you to stretch the opposite hip.

Exercises integrate movements and drills systematically without machines.

Another way Healthy Habits drives mobility is through corrective exercises and sport specific exercises.

Both corrective and sport specific exercises are designed to incorporate drills that improve sports performance, (such as the tennis backswing), physical ability (maintaining and improving balance) and postural alignment; hardwiring the body’s muscle patterning.

Exercises integrate movements and drills systematically without machines, advancing through progressions over time. To avoid overuse and excessive strain on one side of the body agility drills enforce rudimentary ability on both left and right. The specific order of exercise progressions allows asymmetries to be overcome and potential joint deterioration to be avoided.

A benefit to every Workout and Treatment Plan, Facilitated Stretching and Posture Yoga drive mobility and promote postural alignment.

Exercises inspired by yoga postures and poses are performed with attention to proper alignment, breathing and functional ranges of motion. The chosen poses address the weak link in each individual’s physique.

The trainer uses a firm hands-on approach to guide the body and facilitate the stretch through eccentric muscle contractions which occur when the muscle is actively lengthened. Eccentric strength promotes stability in the joints limiting future joint deterioration and overall functional strength.

Facilitated stretching and posture poses are typically done with a press-relax pattern to permanently improve the muscle and fascia flexibility.
